More Than a Clinic: The Story Behind Kinvara Functional Health

Welcome to Kinvara Functional Health

Hi… welcome to Kinvara Functional Health.

I’ll be your guide on this little blog journey, and fair warning — it might be a bit of a wild one.

My name is Dr. Sierra Zinke, chiropractor and owner here at Kinvara, and today we’re going to do a deep dive into our mission, what we do here, and how this practice came to be. This journey is a special one, potentially an emotional one, and one I’m incredibly excited to share with everyone who walks through my doors.

So let’s start with me.

I grew up in Connecticut, where I was a big sports kid — playing field hockey and softball — and that love for sports carried with me into college. I worked with the athletic department in several different capacities before eventually choosing my chiropractic college because it allowed me to dual enroll in my Doctorate and my Master’s at the same time.

Yes… I know. Slightly insane.
But honestly, that’s kind of a theme in my life.

To this day, sports are still a huge part of who I am. If you ever want to talk sports, analyze a game, or just generally yap about athletics, I’m absolutely your girl.

But that’s not all that I am.

I’m also a woman — a woman in a field that is still largely male-dominated. I’m a woman who has gone to doctors before and felt like I wasn’t fully heard. A woman who is an athlete but also fully enjoys a good couch potato moment. And like many people, I know when something feels off in my body.

The last thing anyone wants when they’re concerned about their health is to feel dismissed or told that nothing is wrong.

So when I began building my own practice, it was critical — truly non-negotiable — that I created a space that was warm, welcoming, and where people genuinely felt heard.

I want Kinvara to be a place you actually feel comfortable coming to. Because far too often, people avoid going to the doctor until things are really bad — simply because the experience hasn’t felt supportive in the past.

And honestly?

Our health and wellness are far too important for that.

It’s More Than Just the Adjustment

As a chiropractor, movement and mobility are obviously a major focus of what I do. Adjustments are incredibly helpful and can make a big difference in how the body moves and feels.

But a huge part of my philosophy is that care has to go beyond the adjustment.

Things might start moving better after an adjustment, but if there’s no stability supporting that movement, we’re likely going to end up right back where we started.

And even if movement and stability improve, if you’re not sleeping well, not recovering well, or your body isn’t getting the time it needs to heal…

You guessed it.

We end up right back where we started.

Health is multifactorial. It’s constantly changing and influenced by many different factors. It simply doesn’t make sense to treat it as if it were a straight, linear problem.

That’s why I wanted to create a space that allows us to look at the whole picture.

At Kinvara Functional Health, we focus on whole-person care through services like:

  • Chiropractic adjustments

  • Rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise

  • Sports medicine care

  • Soft tissue manipulation

  • Comprehensive hormone testing

The goal isn’t just to chase symptoms — it’s to understand why they’re happening in the first place so we can address the true root cause.

Because at the end of the day, my goal is simple:

I want you to live a long, healthy, active life doing the things you love most.

So… Let’s Talk About the Name

Every business needs a good name, right?

Kinvara Functional Health.

From the beginning, I knew I wanted a practice that felt safe, welcoming, and community-driven. A place that focused on movement, longevity, and whole-person health.

So I started thinking about words that captured all of those ideas.

That’s where “Kin” comes in.

The word kin can mean family and community — the people who surround us and support us.

But it also ties into movement.

I studied kinesiology in college — the study of human movement — which ultimately led me down the path toward chiropractic and rehabilitation.

But I also wanted the name to mean something personal to me.

And this is where things get a little emotional.

If you know me, you know the start of 2026 was a bit of a doozy.

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer in December and was given less than six months to live. She passed away just one month later. We had also lost my grandmother — her mother — two years prior.

Family has always been incredibly important to me. They are my biggest supporters, the people cheering from the sidelines, and the ones who push me to do things I might never have done on my own.

(Shoutout to my partner for the push that helped me take the leap into becoming a business owner.)

I wouldn’t be the person I am today — or in the position to create something meaningful for my community — without the love and support of my family.

So the name Kinvara became the perfect fit.

Kinvara is a village in Ireland, and my family on both sides has strong Irish roots. Naming the practice Kinvara is my way of honoring that heritage while also recognizing the people who helped shape the path that brought me here.

It’s a small nod to family, love, and the community that continues to support me.

So Here We Are

Kinvara Functional Health.

My very own practice — built on the belief that people deserve care that truly looks at the whole picture.

A place focused on:

  • Movement

  • Longevity

  • Whole-person wellness

A place that feels welcoming, supportive, and community-driven.

And a place where the goal is simple: helping people take control of their health and live the lives they want to live.

One person at a time.
